Western Trail Blazer Salutes Jory Sherman

Rebecca Vickery from Western Trail Blazer has given us permission to shine a spotlight on one of their favorite authors and ours, Jory Sherman.

It's hard to even know where to start talking about Jory. He has been nominated for a Pulitzer, and awarded lifetime achievement awards from both Western Fictioneers and Western Writers of America. Moreover, he had been a selfless guiding light to countless writers at the beginning of their careers (and beyond.)

The past few months have been rough for Jory, who suffers from congestive heart failure and stage five kidney disease. His family has set up PROJECT STORYTELLER to raise money for his medical expenses... you can follow the link to make a donation, and we urge you to do so.

We also want to showcase the Jory Sherman works available from WTB and Publishing by Rebecca J. Vickery, listed below. So by all means, make a donation to PROJECT STORYTELLER, and buy any of these Jory Sherman books you haven't read -you'll be glad you did, and you'll be helping one of our industry's giants.

  1. What a great tribute to a great man, Troy. I had the honor of editing Bukowski and Me and enjoyed this bittersweet memoir of Jory's. I felt I got to know him through his words. He is a master storyteller, for certain.

I've read much of Jory's stuff over the years but will have to try BUCHOWSKI & ME.

  4. I had the privilege of meeting and talking to Jory Sherman at WWA.

It was a real honor to hear him speak about his writing career. His advice, write every day, no excuse.

It is my intention to purchase and read more books by him.

Will especially follow Cheryl's and Troy's suggestion to read BUCHOWSKI & ME.

  5. Jory worked on one of my early novels, and I don't think I would've had the success I've had (as meager as it might be compared with an incomparable talent like Jory) if it hadn't been for him. He's a wonderful talent and even even more wonderful man.
