I am an Australian historical fiction/romance author, and I have done a lot of research into our Australian frontier/pioneer history, and it is remarkably similar to that of yours. I used to love reading Zane Grey.

Regards

Margaret Margaret Tannerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07123830410502520003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-56296865894347922932013-04-23T18:48:24.375-05:002013-04-23T18:48:24.375-05:00This is all great stuff, Rod! LOL Lots of history with the ever-expanding concept of "frontier." And of course, cheating the Native Americans out of their lands was a huge way of taming the frontier, for sure. Lots of hard lessons that carry over to present day.
CherylCheryl Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18116526340220274282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-18292951020986146382013-04-23T08:55:40.139-05:002013-04-23T08:55:40.139-05:00Thomas Jefferson was one of the first to suggest r...Thomas Jefferson was one of the first to suggest removing Indians west of the Mississippi, and- like the dip[lomats you mention at the Treaty of Ghent -insisted that it only be done peaceably. His recommendation (and his policy, once he became president): establish trading posts and introduce Indians to the concept of debt, which they would have trouble understanding at first -and as manufactured items went from luxuries to necessities, their debt would grow, and when it was called in they would have no means of paying other than with their land. Which, to Mr. Jefferson, was not quite the same as just forcibly taking the land away from them. Within a few years, of course, many Americans decided that approach simply took too long.Troy D.
