Truth be told, I only realized I had a blog post due a moment before the deadline, and Hakeswill jumped into my mind. Why yes. Where is there a more wicked adversary than Hakeswill (and he's supposedly on the same side as Sharpe)? As is often the case, it's a good ploy to have a devil in the ranks than a devil out across the battle lines where he can't be seen. Sharpe's adversaries are often within his own army.ChuckTyrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02609200010767178944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-63328181366032659442013-06-12T18:49:10.000-05:002013-06-12T18:49:10.000-05:00Villains are of the greatest importance. The meaner the villain, the better the hero and heroine.
What would Sherlock Holmes be without his arch nemesis Moriarty--his intellectual equal, maybe even better.
Wonderful article.Sarah J. Pete Postlethwaite was excellent in the role (as he was in every role he took on). I've read a couple of Cornwell books (Sharpe, and the Starbucks civil war books)but have to say they're a bit too detailed for me. No doubt about it though, he's an excellent writer/storyteller. I've got the complete Sharpe collection on DVD and I can watch them again and again and never get bored.Jo Walpolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13972318968316588965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-18620587745656212012013-06-12T15:11:30.953-05:002013-06-12T15:11:30.953-05:00I've read all the Sharpe books, watched the en...I've read all the Sharpe books, watched the entire series and, strangely enough, when I was selling my London apt. to return to the USA, one of the producers of the Sharpe series viewed it (though he didn't buy) Hakeswill was brilliantly portrayed by the late Pete Postlethwaite--and, needless to say, Sean Bean wasn't bad either as Sharpe. But, yes, the books are brilliant.
