Our generation was blessed with great parents, as well as a bit of freedom that let us experience a degree of adventure. Sometimes, I wonder how we all surivived. I tried hundreds and hundreds of those cases, including the child fatalities. I am also impressed by how much you have managed to crowd into one lifetime. Arson at age four? That was quite an impressive start in life. Like Cheryl,I think I was "afraid of my next fright" at that age. Good luck w/ the book. I enjoyed your interview, wonderfully informative and direct. I've known Charlie a very long time and consider him a dear friend, but I still learned something(s) I did not know about him thanks to this interview.

Charlie, I would love to know HOW you burned that barn down at age 4! I would never have struck a match at that age--I remember at about age 8 my mom set a bottle of Dr Pepper and pop bottle opener in front of me and said, "You have to open it if you want to drink it." LOLLOL I was afraid of the noise it made--not when other people did it, but ME DOING IT???? Oh my gosh! I managed, though, but I don't think I could have done anything with fire when I was FOUR. You were very precocious and BRAVE.

You have certainly had a very interesting life, Charlie. I know the rest of us "don't know the half of it" but I want to thank you for your service, not only in the military sense but for those children you worked to protect and get to a safer place.

Wonderful interview, and Charlie, I hope you get those stories edited and "out there" and finish up those mss. that aren't quite done. I have a couple of those myself.
