There are some great songs in his repertoire, and I believe he is arguably the best guitar player alive.Cheryl Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18116526340220274282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-88597187570120280342021-08-20T06:57:03.128-05:002021-08-20T06:57:03.128-05:00Adding to the story is the word "Dixie" ...Adding to the story is the word "Dixie" and its origins -- did it come from Dixon, the surveyor, or "dix," the money used in Louisiana? Hmm. Both stories seem credible, and hence "Dixieland" being used for the South. Loved the videos you shared, Cheryl. Good to know about Mark Knopfler, too. Always enjoyed his music.Meghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10734148270217773194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-67130526036880918002021-08-20T06:38:38.746-05:002021-08-20T06:38:38.746-05:00Very interesting! Interesting that it's a different Mason altogether. I wish I'd known then about the crown stones--it'd be fun to hunt some down.Jeff Mariottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02790263549073835597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-89720440786864758692021-08-18T20:03:59.150-05:002021-08-18T20:03:59.150-05:00So glad you enjoyed it! This is amazing to me--to think they had a small army of people traveling with them all that time...the logistics must have been something else! I never even KNEW it's original purpose until I listened to this song. And this opened up a lot of doors for me musically, because I mainly thought of Mark Knopfler as the front man for Dire Straits all those years ago, and my gosh, what a huge amount of wonderful music he has created since then! He writes a lot of songs grounded in history that is "common" history--a disillusioned soldier of Bonaparte's, a Roman soldier, and so on, including this one. I love so much of his music it's about all I listen to right now.
