I agree ...Thanks so much for stopping by Elizabeth! I agree with you about Sullivan Ballou. I think that was probably true of many men--they didn't want to fight, but felt it was their duty. So sad to think of soldiers through the ages, giving up everything they wanted and held dear in their lives to march off to war and come back missing limbs or not at all.

Yes, get that MOB story out and get it ready to send to me! I love MOB stories (you might have guessed!) I think he'd have been far more suited to being a poet, as he had a beautiful way with words that showed how much he cherished his wife. I bought the Remington Sisters set a while back and haven't made time to sit and read them yet, but want to very much after reading a brief enticement of each book.Makes me want to dig out my mail order bride story, dust it off and edit. Thanks for sharing this, Cheryl.Elizabeth Clementshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07274775414132461532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-69368208685969670772018-03-21T12:29:05.740-05:002018-03-21T12:29:05.740-05:00Sarah, you're in for some good reading--and I ...Sarah, you're in for some good reading--and I know you're going to enjoy every one of these stories.

I used to love to write letters, even as a kid. My cousins and I wrote to each other. I imagine our parents must have gotten the biggest kick secretly reading those. LOL I miss those "letter writing" days--they allowed us to write our feelings in a much more personal way than a quick e-mail.

Oh, that letter from Sullivan Ballou brings tears to my eyes each and every time I read it--especially the entire thing. You're right--most guys don't write such sweet, passionate things--but I suppose he must have known his death was coming and this was the only chance he had of hopefully letting his wife know how much he loved her.

Hope your CT scan goes well, and thanks so much for stopping by and being so supportive, always!

Cheryl Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18116526340220274282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1409887812566625284.post-81250285565949975632018-03-21T10:01:10.411-05:002018-03-21T10:01:10.411-05:00I remember that letter in the Ken Burns documentar...I remember that letter in the Ken Burns documentary of the Civil War because, just like you, it brought me to tears. Men don't usually speak in such a sentimental way, at least not these days. Once in a while there might be a sweet line or two in what they write.
I have the Remington Sisters and I am so looking forward to reading it. I have to have a CT scan today which takes about 2 hours of waiting in the hospital, so I think I'll take my Kindle with me and get started on it. I loved Cameron's letter.
People don't write letters by hand much any more or even send cards. I treasure them when I get them because they are so special.
All the best to you, Cheryl, and the other authors included in this collection.Sarah J. The letters of Abigail and John Adams are endlessly fascinating to me.

I so love the idea of the Remington sisters and can't wait to get started on reading the stories. Thanks for all you do, all you write and for being who you are.
