NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS--THE ULTIMATE LIST by Cheryl Pierson
I found this list on Pinterest. Though I don't make New Year's resolutions anymore, I thought this list was pretty inspiring and had some good things that we all might be able to use. I'm going to pick at least ONE to make life better in 2021. Not sure what, though. It has to be something that I can actually do (not like going to the gym three times a week or anything like that). I see one that calls to me--CLEAN OUT ATTIC. Now, it might take me all year to do it, but by golly, that's gonna be my "tough one" for this coming year. And maybe I'll pick something else, too, like LEARN SOMETHING NEW. It's been so long since I played the piano or the guitar, that might count as learning something new...all over again. LOL!
What about you? See anything on this list that might be an inspiration?
Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI don't make resolutions, either. I tried choosing a focus word for the New Year one time, and that didn't work either.
However, we have a storage trailer that we pay a lot fee to park it on the outskirts of town. It serves as a combination attic/garage/shed for my hubs and me, my daughter and her family, and my mom. Our collective goal this year is to go through the trailer and purge, purge, purge.
When I say 'trailer', I mean it is a wrecked semi-truck sized refrigerator trailer. Big fella.
I do have a reading goal, though. Last year, I participated on the fringes (I'm not a group-joiner) of a group whose reading focus was to read all of Shakespeare's works in 2020. I accomplished that. (side note: there's a reason we're not as familiar with many of his plays - some are pretty tough to wade through). For 2021, I've decided to revisit many 'classics', Greek Mythology, and the writings of our Founding Fathers (Common Sense, Federalist Papers, etc.), and who knows what else I'll read.
For something new... I'm going to choose a book I know well and read a Spanish translation hand-in-hand with it.
Good luck with tackling your attic. *hugs*
haha
That's my goad this year, too, Kaye. To purge. It's time.
DeleteI like that you have a reading goal! That's a great idea! You've read through some hefty stuff! I did have to read Common Sense and some other things like that MANY years ago for one of my history classes. I don't remember much of it because I was too young. I need to re-read it all with a new perspective--AGE.
That's a great idea about the Spanish translation, too. You have a lot of innovative ideas--I like that better than making a "resolution" that might or might not fall by the wayside.
XO
I'm in the no resolution group also, but I've usually chosen a word for the year, or it choses me.The one for this year hasn't shown up yet, but I've got a couple of days to really listen and see what shows up.
ReplyDeleteI know you'll get that attic done. For me, I'll continue my 'duolingo' Spanish and maybe add Latin. We'll see. Doris
Doris , I have a cd of learning to speak Choctaw that I’m going to try to get going on this year. I think learning Latin would be great. When my sisters were in high school, Latin was required. Not that way by the time I made it to high school. Hope you have a wonderful 2021!
DeleteI am not very good at resolutions, either making nor keeping them. However, I can resolve to eat less sweets and more healthy foods, to exercise more, and to improve my career somehow ...
ReplyDeleteI always do resolve to eat less sweets but...LOL However, I DID give up "real" Coca Cola this past year--no, not for the entire year, but for the last 3 months or so. Lord, how I miss it! JES, I think all we can do is make a resolution to TRY to do better in these things. That way, we know we did make the effort and sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't. But at least we tried. Happy New Year!
DeleteGood post, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteMy main resolution for the New Year is to have the Covid-19 vaccine.
My resolutions during lockdown have been to brush up on French and to learn to read Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Keep safe, Keith
Keith, I'm with you! I will take my vaccination as soon as it's available here. Things aren't moving along quite as quickly as they'd hoped, but the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight.
DeleteOh, goodness, hieroglyphics! What fun! How's it coming along? Hope you are making good progress with that and the French brush up. I took 4 years of French in high school, but it's really true that if you don't use it you lose it in practicing languages. Oddly enough, I've had quite a lot of Spanish too, and I find myself thinking in a mixture of both languages when I try to dodderingly put a sentence together. LOL Now that is a PICKLE! LOL
Happy New Year, Keith!
So many on here would better my life but cutting back on social media would probably help me the best.
